About Us
At Lace Up, we believe every kid deserves a shot — on and off the court.
We’re a nonprofit dedicated to breaking down barriers for underprivileged youth in Los Angeles by providing the essential basketball gear and guidance they need to play safely and confidently.
For many families in our community, the cost of basketball shoes and equipment is a hurdle that keeps their children on the sidelines. Without proper gear, young athletes risk injury, exclusion, or missing out on the life-changing lessons that come from being part of a team.
That’s where we step in. Lace Up supplies kids with quality sneakers, basketballs, and coaching — giving them the tools to stay active, build confidence, and chase their potential through the power of sport.
Because when kids lace up, they level up.
Our Story
Founded in 2021, Lace Up exists to ensure that every underprivileged youth in the Los Angeles area has the opportunity to play basketball — with dignity, support, and the right gear.

Since launching, we’ve provided basketball equipment to more than 200 underserved kids across Los Angeles. And we’re just getting started. By partnering with local nonprofits, coaches, and youth programs, we’re building a network of support for the next generation of athletes — one pair of shoes, one ball, one court at a time.
Lace Up was born out of a real moment — a connection between co-founders Kate and Tim and their neighbor, Jordan, a dedicated teenage hooper being raised by a single mom. Despite wearing worn-out shoes and using a worn down basketball, Jordan showed up to the court every day with determination and heart. His perseverance inspired Kate and Tim, and with the help of Jordan and his mother, they began connecting with coaches and local families who echoed the same need: access to basic basketball equipment was missing — and deeply needed.
Thanks to the generosity of donors from across the country, Jordan went on to have a successful varsity basketball career and now serves as a student manager for the UCLA Men's Basketball Team. His story is the heartbeat of Lace Up — a reminder that something as simple as a pair of shoes can help change a young person’s path.
At Lace Up, we believe basketball is more than just a game. It’s a gateway to education, leadership, life skills, and lifelong friendships. Whether a young athlete is competing at a high level or just picking up a ball for the first time, we’re here to make sure they’re equipped to play, grow, and thrive.
Why Lace Up
We started Lace Up after seeing our neighbor Jordan—a passionate teen showing up to the court with worn-out shoes and a beat-up ball. He had the drive but lacked the gear.

That moment revealed how many kids are held back just for not affording the basics. Lace Up was created to change that.

With the right equipment, kids feel seen, supported, and ready to play — and that changes everything.
Who We Help
Lace Up serves passionate youth in underserved LA neighborhoods who lack the gear to play.

For many, the cost of equipment is a barrier that sidelines them. We break down that barrier.

We support any child whose life basketball can transform—through teamwork, confidence, and purpose.

With the right tools, kids gain more than a game—they gain opportunity.
