Animo Ellen Ochoa Charter Middle School

Animo Ellen Ochoa (AEO) Charter Middle School in East Los Angeles maintains a 99% minority and 90% economically disadvantaged student enrollment. The school has never had a basketball team in its history and does not possess a basketball court on its campus.

LaceUp coordinated with assistant principal Michael Vaughn to provide for the 15 members of the 6th-8th grade co-ed AEO Astro basketball team with new shoes. Many of the first Many of the students will play on their first organized team, and some students did not own basketball shoes before Lace Up’s

donation.

To hold tryouts and practices, the AEO team was forced to rent outdoor park space without a basketball hoop and set up cones. The AEO Astro basketball team will play 8 games this winter, and LaceUp will be in attendance to cheer on the team!
